Semih Sağman, a first-year student of the Master's Programme in Radio, Television and Cinema, has won the award for the best documentary film.
The award ceremony of the MÜSİAD Altın Çark International Short Film Festival, organised by the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD), was held at the Atatürk Cultural Centre on Saturday, 12 April.
Semih Sağman, a student on our Master's programme in Radio, Television and Cinema, won the 'Best Documentary Film' award at this year's inaugural festival with his film 'Gulab Gul', shot in Afghanistan.
The subject of Sağman's award-winning film is as follows: Gulab Gul is a boy living in a remote mountain village in Afghanistan. Gulab does not have two arms from birth. Gulab, who lost his father 5 years ago, is taken care of by his uncle. But his uncle also has to go to the city for business. So, how will Gulab Gul cope with this challenging geography and his own shortcomings if his uncle leaves?
Our student Semih Sağman also achieved another success by working as a director in the six-episode documentary project "Surviving Assad" broadcast on TRT World.
