Distinguished by its high academic standards, Ibn Haldun University aims to train researchers capable of conducting in-depth academic studies through its research-oriented vision and Philosophy Ph.D. Program. The program encourages original research on both classical and contemporary philosophical issues, including Western philosophy, Islamic and Turkish philosophy, ethics, animal rights, the climate crisis, feminism, and artificial intelligence.
With a strong focus on graduate education, our university offers students a robust foundation for scientific research and publication, supported by a distinguished faculty and an interdisciplinary approach. Ph.D. students are provided with various scholarship opportunities, including tuition scholarships, full scholarships, and merit-based scholarships. In addition, students are actively involved in research projects and are supported in participating in international academic events.
As one of the universities in Turkey with the highest proportion of international students, Ibn Haldun University moves beyond a Eurocentric approach by evaluating both Western and Islamic philosophical traditions within their historical contexts and mutual interactions. This enables students to develop a universal and critical perspective. The culturally rich environment, enriched by students from all around the world, provides an inspiring foundation for academic work.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Enis Doko
The Ph.D. Program in Philosophy at Ibn Haldun University approaches the legacy of Western philosophy through a pluralistic lens, grounded in the traditions of Ancient, Islamic, Turkish, and Continental European philosophy. The program offers a dynamic academic platform for in-depth exploration of contemporary philosophical issues such as animal rights, the climate crisis, artificial intelligence, ethics, and feminism, encouraging students to make original contributions to these fields. In particular, research on the philosophy of artificial intelligence — addressing key questions related to consciousness, ethical responsibility, decision-making processes, and human-machine relations — is strongly supported.
The program provides philosophical training rooted in these diverse traditions, enabling students to specialize and deepen their expertise through selected courses and independent research. It prioritizes not only the transmission of historical knowledge but also the development of critical and original philosophical thought. A primary objective is to educate scholars who can engage with the Islamic philosophical tradition not merely as a historical phenomenon but as a living dialogue within the framework of contemporary philosophical problems. Students are encouraged to approach classical sources with a critical perspective and to creatively integrate this intellectual heritage into current philosophical debates.
Moreover, the Philosophy Ph.D. Program promotes interdisciplinary research across areas such as philosophy of science, epistemology, ethics, and the philosophy of artificial intelligence, aligning the department’s strategic focus with developments in the philosophy of science and technology. International academic collaborations and interdisciplinary initiatives are actively supported, enabling students to contribute original philosophical work on both local and global stages.
Our program offers an ideal academic environment for candidates aiming to advance their philosophical knowledge, make creative contributions to contemporary debates, and take on leadership roles in intellectual and academic spheres.
The Ph.D. Program in Philosophy at Ibn Haldun University is designed for:
The program offers students the opportunity to build a critical bridge between classical and contemporary philosophical traditions and aims to equip them with the ability to reevaluate and reinterpret the intellectual heritages of both Western and Islamic philosophy from a unique perspective.
