Ibn Haldun University is founded on being a research university. For this reason, it has adopted a graduate-oriented and research-oriented approach to education. Achieving these basic goals of our university and providing academic contributions to the field of media studies is the primary aim of the master’s program in Radio, Television, and Cinema. Moreover, as in many parts of the world with the proliferation of the internet and digital technology in recent years, interest in the media and communications industry has also significantly increased in Turkey. In this regard, Ibn Haldun University, Radio, Television, and Cinema master’s program has set as a priority the transfer of the historical background of our country to future generations with the language of short films, TV programs, cinema, and documentary films. In brief, this program will safely prepare its students for the future with its intellectual as well as practical possibilities.

The Radio, Television, and Cinema master's program, which is located at the intersection of social sciences, is a visionary program where both theoretical and practical courses take place. Many other courses, such as Media Studies, Film Analysis, Presentation Skills, Script Writing, and Techniques, point to both theoretical and practical aspects of the program. To complete this characteristic of the Radio, Television, and Cinema program, students will be able to present their short films, documentary films, etc. projects as a capstone project besides their master’s thesis.
Graduates of the Radio, Television, and Cinema graduate program will be able to demonstrate a strong presence both in their academic life and in the sector with their double-sided acquisition. In this regard, the program will contribute to meeting the need for qualified faculty members in Communication Schools, which have been increasing in number in our country in recent years. It will also provide professionals with the qualifications and competencies needed by the press, TV, cinema, and documentary industries.

In this course, with the examination of research in the field of communication, students learn research stages such as preparation of research proposal, literature review, model development, resource management, and reporting.
This course aims to provide fundamental knowledge of research methodology in mass communication science by bringing together both the theoretical and practical elements of research. Students will be exposed to quantitative and qualitative research methodologies as they affect the changes in the media landscape and its evaluation. Students as well will be exposed to different theoretical paradigms of research, analysis of competing frameworks for defining the media as objects of study, and debate on issues related to research ethics and effective communication of research findings.
The course aims to evaluate the studies related to the media in the framework of general social theory to provide a basis for graduate studies in the field of communication. Positivist methodology, criticism of positivism and alternative approaches, studies in the early years of media studies, cultural indicators and the impact concepts, critical theory, cultural studies, feminist approaches, technological determinism, and hyperreality and simulation concepts are the contents of this course.
During this course, the ideological background of the media will be examined, the relationship with capital and power will be analyzed, and discourse analysis will be done through the media texts. Ideology, Reproduction, Discourse Analysis, Media, and Frankfurt School are the topics to be covered in the course. The student who attends the course defines the different meanings, origins, aims, and effects of ideology, understands the feature of the mass media as the fourth power; critically distinguishes the process of mass media/media transformation; criticizes the media’s way of constructing and transmitting the ideology.
This course will examine the decent techniques of analysis in textual analysis and examine the methods by which different texts can be studied. Various analysis methods such as content analysis, interpretative analysis, thematic analysis, discourse analysis, and ideological analysis constitute the content of the course. At the end of the course, the student will be able to analyze, collect, and evaluate written, visual, audio, and multimedia texts.

The course aims to make a theoretical introduction to the new social structure and the role of new communication technologies and processes in the formation of these structures. This course covers topics such as new media concepts, digital culture, network-based sociability and politics, network-based social movements, and usage of social media. These topics will be covered by focusing on the past, present, and future of digital communication technologies. The student who will attend this course; identify the foundations of contemporary communication technologies from a historical perspective; use the concepts of the network society, information society, new communication scheme, social media, social movements in the context of communication theories; discuss the concepts such as social media, online public sphere, and digital social movements in the context of communication theories; compare the fundamental differences between modern society and postmodern society; compare the fundamental differences between modern society and postmodern society; evaluate the basic characteristics of contemporary information society and network society.
This course, it is aimed to study the effects of mass communication tools on individuals and society within the frame of culture. The course’s content is about the effects of mass communication tools on people within the frame of communication history.
This course focuses on contemporary video production techniques and aesthetic issues. It aims to introduce students to technical equipment and give a basic history of technical developments in this area. Throughout this course, workshops will cover camera and television systems, camera support systems, lenses, and editing.
This course aims to examine the transformation of communication, culture, and media within the framework of different theories of social change, as well as the role of these elements in social change from a historical perspective. In this context, economic, cultural, technological, demographic, and political developments and their reflection in cultural and media practice will be discussed. At the end of this course the student; reviews the history of the world and Turkey in the framework of theories of social change; explains the impact of economic, cultural, demographic, political, and technological developments on media and cultural practices; explains the relationship between communications, media social change, and cultural practices; understands current debates about cultural and media practices.
This course is designed as an introduction to the world of non-narrative cinema products. The course will offer critical insights into the historical development of non-narrative film products, from early times to nowadays, often by documentary and ethnographic films, but also by experimental films. The course will cover documentary theory and criticism, ethical issues, problems with presentation, ideas development, research methods, project proposal writing, budgeting, and distribution rights. In addition, students will undertake a non-narrative film project from preliminary preparation to editing.

The main objective of this course is to enable students to recognize ethical problems in the media content and to develop solution proposals. More specifically, it is aimed to internalize ethical arrangements related to the journalistic profession and criticize them by recognizing unethical examples. Another end is to analyze the causes of unethical practices in the media.
The course will examine the social history of radio and television broadcasting, radio and television broadcasting in Turkey, international broadcasting, terrestrial broadcasting, satellite television broadcasting, IPTV, and Internet broadcasting, mobile television broadcasting examines issues. Students who complete successfully this course learn the social history of radio and television broadcasting, comprehend the technological development of radio and television broadcasting, and compare broadcasting technologies used in radio and television broadcasting.
The radio and Television Programming course aims at acquiring the necessary institutional knowledge about television programs, managing radio and television programming processes, and producing and broadcasting various programs.
This course will teach the main theories and theoreticians who have been studying the objective cinema since its inception in structural and functional terms so that they can look at the cinema from a broader perspective. The student who takes this course contributes to the art of cinema and visual language and studies cinema theories, important theorists as well as triggering conditions of cinema and its techniques.
This course will describe the basic features of Turkish cinema, the relationship between politics and Turkish cinema, the industrial structure of Turkish cinema, its production and distribution conditions, and possibilities. It also explains the aspects of Turkish cinema in comparison with other countries’ cinemas and the particular aspects of Turkish cinema and the conditions under which they arise.
The course aims to enable students to gain proficiency in radio programming and radio program production.
The course aims to illustrate events, and topics in cinema history, where elements of political ideology and/or propaganda were committed to one or more stages of the movie production. Topics of interest include of course the propaganda cinema in both oppressive regimes and democratic states; the various forms of politically engaged cinema, and the addressing of specifically political questions such as the citizen-state relationship in its various stylistic incarnations.
This course will examine the use of sound in effective speaking as well as conveying the proper speaking and presentation techniques and gain the skill of using the language correctly. In addition to this, it is aimed that the students will be able to work on news spikes and program presentations in the field of cinema and television.
This course examines the history, aesthetics, and culture of independent cinema with a particular emphasis on shifting practices in a digital era. It will explore contemporary trends in independent cinema such as the blurring between fiction and non-fiction.
This course includes the theoretical and technical transfer of the concepts of the scriptwriting techniques (classical method, American method) and the use of them in practice, detailed film storytelling, synopsis, treatment, scriptwriting, stage, plan, sequence, plan-sequence distinctions, character analysis, event braid, dialogue braid, theoretical comprehension of concepts, to acquire basic information about scriptwriting. Theoretical and practical comparison between dramatic story, literary story and film story, film narrative, synopsis, theoretical knowledge, training, scriptwriting techniques, stage, plan, sequence, plan-sequence differences, theoretical analysis of dramatic structure, theoretical analysis of dramatic structure, and the theoretical analysis of character structuring.
This course aims to examine the place of young people in consumer culture today when the use of media tools is widespread. Popular culture, technology addiction, virtual gossip, virtual reality, the Y generation, postmodernism, and social networks are the general content of the course.
