The aim of the program:

The aim of this program is to train students who are able to assess clients or patients with psychological disorders or tension and conflicts, to determine psychological problems and to take place in the treatment in clinical settings or at work places. Throughout the education student will learn theoretical as well as practical information and skills necessary for treatment.

The Scope of the Program:

The information and skills are enumerated as follows: Information on psychopathology and non-pathological infliction cases; developmental psychology of children, adolescents, young adults, middle aged and elderly; therapeutic information and intervention skills which are mainly eclectic in nature and cover such approaches as CBT, trauma intervention, narrative approach, positive psychotherapy; the skills of clinical assessment within a frame of enriched supervised clinical experience.

Targeted Student Population:

The program is convenient for those who are willing to work in private or public clinical and non-clinical settings with mental health problems including psychopathology and daily stresses and tensions. Alternatively, it is suitable to deepen their expertise for academic purposes.

NOTLAR:

1) Klinik Psikoloji Tezli Yüksek Lisans Programından mezun olmak için toplam 23 kredi ve 140 AKTS’lik dokuz ders ve bir seminer dersi olmak üzere toplamda 10 adet ders alınır. Bunların sekiz tanesi zorunlu, iki tanesi seçmeli derstir. Mezuniyet için ayrıca Çokdillilik Politikası gereği aşağıdaki şartların sağlanması gerekmektedir.

2) Öğrencilerin mezun olmak için ikinci yıllarında toplam 600 saatlik aktif staj saati zorunluluğu bulunmaktadır. Aktif staj saati; süpervizyon altında bireysel danışan görüşmesi yapma, tecrübeli psikoterapistlerin yaptığı görüşmeleri izleme, seans deşifresi, vaka sunumu, süpervizyon, test uygulama-raporlama vb. uygulamaları içerir.

3) Genel seçmeli ders ancak Enstitü Yönetim Kurulu Kararı ile saydırılabilir. Bu sebeple genel seçmeli ders alan öğrencilerin Enstitü’ye sunacakları bir dilekçe ile saydırma talebinde bulunmaları gerekmektedir.

4) Çokdillilik Politikası ile ilgili alınan 24.09.2018 tarihli Senato kararı uyarınca, Üniversitemizin lisansüstü programları içinde bu politikaya tabi olan bütün programların öğrencilerinin mezuniyet şartı olarak Türkçe, İngilizce ve Arapça (veya Arapça dışında bir dil) dillerinde belirli seviyelerde dil yeterliliğine sahip olmaları gerekmektedir.

a- Klinik Psikoloji Tezli Yüksek Lisans Programı için İngilizce B1, Türkçe B1 ve Arapça’dan A2 seviyesinde dil yeterliliği aranacaktır. Bu program kapsamında verilecek dil dersleri kredili olarak açılacağından bu derslerden alınan notlar Genel Not Ortalaması hesabına katılacaktır.

b- Öğrenciler dil derslerine ilişkin mezuniyet şartlarını ya program öncesinde hazırlık programında eğitim alarak (program tarafından verilmiş ise) ya da program süresince alacakları dil derslerinde başarılı olarak karşılayabileceklerdir. Bu dillerde mezuniyet şartı olarak istenen seviyede dil yeterliliğine sahip olduğunu, Üniversite tarafından kabul edilen sınav sonuçları ile belgeleyen öğrenciler de mezuniyet yükümlülüğünü sağlamış olurlar.

Üniversitemiz öğrencilerimize iki farklı ders işleyiş seçeneği sunmaktadır. Birinci seçenekte öğrencilerimiz haftada toplam beş saat dil dersi alabilecektir.

İkinci seçenekte ise (yoğun program) hafta içi her gün iki saat olmak üzere toplam on saat ders verilmektedir.

Öğrencilerimizin programları tarafından istenen seviyeye ulaşabilmeleri için almaları gereken ders sayısı aşağıdaki gibidir:

Türkçe ve İngilizce B1 düzeyi için: Birinci seçenekte yer alan dersi 3 dönem veya ikinci seçenekte yer alan dersi 1 dönem ve birinci seçenekte yer alan dersi 1 dönem olmak üzere 2 dönem ders almaları ve bu dersleri başarmaları gerekmektedir.

Arapça A2 düzeyi için: Birinci seçenekte yer alan dersi 2 dönem veya ikinci seçenekte yer alan dersi 1 dönem almaları ve bu dersleri başarmaları gerekmektedir.

Not: Öğrencilerin sadece kendi seviyelerine uygun olan dil dersine kayıt yaptırmaları, Diller Okulu tarafından düzenlenecek seviye belirleme sınavları ile sağlanacaktır.

Course Contents

Module Descriptions

Core Modules

PSY 521 Advanced Psychopathology

In this module students will study specifically the history, classification, causes and treatment of psychological disorders. They will critically examine the dispositions and contributions of psychological, biological, and socio-cultural factors to the expression of psychopathology across the lifespan. The unit considers the historical context of psychopathology and of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) before considering in detail anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, schizophrenia and psychosis, eating disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, personality disorders and cognitive disorders. Ethical and legal issues relevant to the provision of mental health services within the Turkish health system will be considered.

PSY 531 Clinical Interview and Counselling Skills

In this module students learn about process of helping starting from how to encounter clients/patients. It includes creating convenient therapeutic environments or conditions. In addition, they learn how to define client problems, and how to apply the skills of restatement, paraphrasing, summary, active listening, high empathy, how to ask various types of questions, how to deal with transference and countertransference. The skills taught in module is not a theory bounded but cover generic core skills in a clinical setting.

PSY 511 Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy I

Students will be learning about the theoretical underpinnings of the CBT and its applications starting from the beginning stage, problem definition, restricting, exposure and other relevant techniques and strategies used in this tradition.

PSY 501 Research Methods and Ethics in Clinical Psychology

In this module students will learn more on the assumptions, principles and applications of experimental and semi-experimental methods and their analyses together with further parametric tests including multivariate variables, structural equational modelling and two-way ANOVA.

Students will examine the ethical principles observed in clinical applications of psychology with a particular focus on the codes of ethics put forward by such associations as APA, EFPA, TPD. These are shown in clinical practice with concrete examples. The values of local people are integrated into the discussions.

PSY 512 Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy II

This module will be the continuation of model I of the CBT above. In this module more case studies, applications and supervisions and less theoretical information will take place.

PSY 524 Psychopathology of Children and Adolescents

Students learn in this module about the psychopathologies and their aetiologies specific to the periods of childhood and adolescence. They also learn about the assessment tools, their applications, and the therapy methods widely used.

PSY 508 Statistics in Clinical Psychology

In this module students will be able to learn how to analyse descriptive and inferential statistics at advanced levels.

PSY 533 Clinical Assessment

In this study students learn on the application of clinical interview and subsequent assessment of the cases in the light of the communication with patients. In addition, they learn about the tools, their applications and interpretations of the data gathered.

PSY 535 Clinical Practice and Supervision I

In this module, students will apply their theoretical knowledge and interview skills in the real world under the supervision of lecturers. The application will include therapeutic interview and assessment. These are assessed by the lecturer.

PSY 537 Clinical Practice and Supervision II

In this module, students will apply their theoretical knowledge and interview skills in the real world under the supervision of lecturers. The application will include therapeutic interview and assessment. These are assessed by the lecturer.

PSY 542 Biological Treatments of Psychopathology

In this study, students will revisit their information on the biology of psychopathologies and their treatment by pharmacological interventions. They learn the effects of the drugs and the process how these drugs operate in the biology of the patients.

Electives

PSY 523 Group Therapy

In this module, students learn about the nature, principles and approaches to group therapy and focus on a commonly used format. They also learn about group dynamics and how to conduct such a group therapy in their clinical career.

PSY 540 Psychotherapy and Culture

In this module students learn the interactions between contextual cultural parameters and the application of psychotherapy. They also discuss the culture-specific disorders or cultural contributors of the psychopathologies and their role in the process of treatment.

PSY 525 Positive Psychotherapy

In this module students study the main arguments of the movement of positive psychology and their approaches to mental health. Main theories such as learned helplessness, psychological well-being are studied and are integrated into the clinical practice.

PSY 543 Sexual Dysfunctions and Treatment

In this module, students learn about the nature of sexuality, sexual orientations and sexual psychopathologies preventing satisfactions in close relations. They also learn about therapeutic interventions and strategies in this respect

PSY 545 Addictions and Treatment

In this module, students will learn about the nature addition, how it occurs, by what drugs cause addiction, their effects on thinking, emotion and behaviour. They also learn about the methods of treatment of drug addictions.

PSY 526 Play Therapy

Students learn how to conduct play therapy in the treatment of childhood behaviour problems.

PSY 518 Advanced Theories of Psychotherapy

Students study in this module mainly used theories of psychotherapy, their histories and distinguished principles and methods of application in depth. In this regard, the human perceptions of these theories, thinking models and their implications in the practice will be critically evaluated.

PSY 528 Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

In this module students will learn about concepts and the principles of psychodynamic approach in therapy and be able to utilize in the process of treatment with patients and clients.

PSY 546 Couple and Family Therapies

In this module, students learn working with problems in couple or family relations using specific techniques to the population

PSY 520 CBT with Children and Adolescents

In this module students, learn the world of gifted children and children with developmental problems and their assessment in clinical setting. They also learn how to handle childhood problems in therapy using CBT approach.

PSY 534 Psychological Assessment with Children and Adolescents

In this module students learn the nature of the widely used tests in the area of childhood and adolescent psychology and to assess data gathered from this group of patients in clinical settings for the aim of treatment.

PSY 522 Positive Psychotherapy

Inspiring from positive psychology, this module will introduce the conceptions of health from a positive perspective and suggests how to use therapy in order to enhance positive aspects of psychic life
